Collegeville, PA (December 13, 2002) – Entrepreneurs in search of fast growth business opportunities and job hunters seeking employment should take a closer look at the software, healthcare, security and nanotechnology industries, according to management consulting firm T. The U.S. Department of Labor foresees a 6.4 percent growth rate for computer and data processing services and a 4.6 percent increase in healthcare services through the year 2010.

"Software firms that provide customers with a quick return on investment are examples of technology companies that are still experiencing growth," explains Mike Sweeny, Managing Director, TWC. "Healthcare-related organizations, especially ones whose products or services help cut costs, will also be among the fastest growing industries in the next few years," Sweeny adds.

Other fast growing industries include defense, nanotechnology, and companies with a focus on the security of computer information systems and networks.

"Using nanotechnology, there is the potential to revolutionize many of today's industries including technology, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, and defense," says Sweeny.

While some industries are on the rise, certain occupations are expected to decline. The jobs expected to see the greatest number of cuts are those in which machines have replaced human workers or in which computers have increased productivity, allowing companies to do more with fewer employees.

The occupations with the largest declines for 2000-2010 as projected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics are:

1. Farmers and ranchers
2. Order clerks
3. Tellers
4. Insurance claims and policy processing clerks
5. Word processors and typists
6. Sewing machine operators
7. Dishwashers
8. Switchboard operators, including answering service
9. Loan interviewers and clerks
10. Computer operators
